Until Swinton.co.uk came along, finding insurance wasn't easy. By the economic boom of the late 50's, when cars became affordable, demand grew for an insurance provider that was more accessible to the general public. It was in 1957 that Swinton.co.uk started to recognise the needs of the public by opening the first Swinton.co.uk branch in Salford, beginning a new way of buying insurance.
Swinton.co.uk were the first car insurer to advertise on TV. Due to this success they rapidly expanded in the North West of England to cope with demand.
With the increasing availability of insurance technology systems, Swinton.co.uk became one of the first car insurers to use a computerised quotation system and computerised all their customer records. This improved efficiency and gave Swinton.co.uk the opportunity throughout the 1980's to expand their branch network to the national presence they have today.
The early part of the 90's saw Swinton.co.uk become a wholly owned subsidiary of Sun Alliance, now known as Royal & Sun Alliance.
By the mid 90's Swinton.co.uk had begun to trade electronically with all their major car insurers. They opened their first national Telesales/Servicing Centre and introduced a freephone quotation line that linked all branches to the call centre.
In May 2001 Swinton.co.uk was bought by La Mutuelle Du Mans Assurance (MMA), a French Insurer. They trade independently in the UK along with their sister company MMA UK, from this a stronger Swinton.co.uk emerged. Swinton.co.uk have introduced a new corporate identity, corporate wear for all our advisors and a new customer friendly environment in all branches, with retail systems, to take them well into the new millennium.
In May 2002 Swinton.co.uk acquired Colonnade Insurance Brokers and became Swinton.co.uk Colonnade. This merger makes Swinton.co.uk Colonnade the biggest insurance broker on the high street, with branches covering 90% of the UK.
With continuous investment in people, service levels, range of insurers and products, together with the ability to keep pace with a very dynamic market, Swinton.co.uk aim to secure their future as Swinton.co.uk Colonnade.
